ولد الملك عبدالله بن عبدالعزيز آل سعود في مدينة الرياض سنة (1343هـ) الموافق(1924م)، بالإضافة إلى كونه سليل أسرة عربية أصيلة، كان لها في شبة الجزيرة العربية، ولا يزال، مكانتها المؤثّرة في التّاريخ ممّا أهّلها لأن يكون لها دورها الفعّال، والمؤثّر على الساحة العربية، والإسلاميّة، والعالميّة، إذ عاش في كنف والده مؤسّس الدّولة السعوديّة الثّالثة الملك عبدالعزيز آل سعود، في عصر يفرض كلّ ما فيه على الإنسان الصبر، والاحتمال. ونتيجةً لذلك، كان للانضباط الدينيّ، والنفسيّ، والأخلاقيّ دوره في تكوين شخصيتة؛ حضوراً، وتأثيراً، وتفاعلاً. وقد كوّن في مجموعه رؤيته الثاقبة التي تفرض قناعاتها بالمنطق والعقل؛ سلوكاً وتعاملاً، قولاً وفعلاً وما زالت تشكّل ملامحه الشخصيّة إلى اليوم. فعَلِق في ذهنه، أحداث تلك المرحلة التاريخيّة الهامّة في تاريخ الجزيرة العربيّة
لقد أثّرت شخصيّة الملك عبدالعزيز، رحمه الله، في فكر الملك عبدالله، وفي ثقافته؛ فقد كان؛ أي الملك عبد العزيز، عدوّ التزمّت، ليس مُشتطّا في معتقداته السياسية، ولا في أفكاره الدينيّة، إذ لو لم يؤمن بالعلم وبالعلماء، ويفتح لهم قلبه وحدود بلاده، في ذلك اليوم، الذي خالفه فيه من خالفه، لما رأى العالم هذه البلاد بما فيه من تطوّر، فلولا بصيرة الملك عبدالعزيز لبقي كلّ شئ ميّتا في جوف الأرض، لكنّه هزم كلّ المعارضين، مثلما هزم الجهل، وسوء الظنّ، وعقم الفهم؛باستقباله كل من وفد من أوروبّا، آتيا وهو يحمل علوم العصر، ومستحدثاته
لقد عاصر التطوّرات السياسيّة، وأدرك ما خلّفته من متغيّرات فكريّة في عقل الإنسان العربيّ، وما أوجدته من تقسيمات جغرافيّة للوطن العربي والإسلامي، فبقيت تلك الدروس في عالقة ذاكرته في الذهن، وهي ما يراها اليوم إحساسا بالواجب لفهم الأحداث، ومحاورتها من أجل رأب الصدع
